hey no problems, we can talk about anything since imaginatively we are in a tavern with ale around the table chatting.
firstly, SOP questions: 1)is shern wong a girl? if so, go to question 2. 2) Chio anot?
bearing tat in mind, DM u often head to home club ? Its supposedly the de facto place for all things indie and homegrown

1) Shern Wong is a dude. 2) Cute, if you're a girl. Shern's basically a friend of ours (and DM's bandmate). Here's his site to pique your interest.

Shern Wong is a local homegrown guitarist instrumentalist. My ex-bandmate. Eh... nope, never been to home club. I am not really into indies though.

Tas'sadar: Well... if you going for shern's gig you would be getting it faster that way unless we meet up before the 2nd of May. But if you can't make it, I can pass you a copy on the 9th at our next session.
Gond: You hear the tracks already?

The day when I received the Bloom EP from the man himself. I put it into the car CD player; and started listening to the 4 tracks. And then when I saw the performance at the Art House, it further enhanced my understanding of the EP.
BLOOM This is the typical track opener. It's meant to engulf you into Shern's world that's starting to 'bloom'. It's got that fast rock anthemic opening that you just wouldn't sit back. And when it goes to the main, you know the protagonist is bringing you into his magical world of guitars and heroism. The crystal clear note-for-note precision playing just makes you keep listening to it; and you just love it when the key changes as the shreds go on down the fretboard. BLOOM is the general crowd pleaser.
Flight from the Dark Seriously, I never really wanted to listen to this track because it is rather moody. When I saw the title, I thought it was going to be some Iron Maiden heavy shit, but I was wrong. I somehow got to appreciate it more at the 'live' show.
Listening to it again after the 'live' rendition of it. I realised that if you are talking about the guitar-playing, it is solid. The sound of the pulls and pushes [with that wah effect], you come to a conclusion that you may not really be enticed to, but it is definitely a song you want to play on the guitars yourself. A lot of guitar techniques, and I managed to see them come alive during the 'live' rendition.
Flight from the Dark is a song that slowly builds on you, and if you are the typical mainstream kind of music lover, you would take some time to appreciate this track. This track is of an acquired taste.
TWO HEARTS This is my personal favourite. The moment it started to play on the CD player the first time, I fell in love with the opening guitar riffs. It's got that classic rock ballad theme in it. Brings to me images of those old-school rock n' roll madness, and wild love stories of young anguished teenagers.
And this is the only track in the EP that is able to be filled in with lyrics. Although Shern does not want to sell out, I bet with you, if this instrumental is ever converted into a full song, it can be a No.1 hit on the charts. And as radio-friendly as this track sounds, listen carefully and you hear loads of guitar power shit coming from the fingers of Shern Wong. All that shredding in the main solo section, you know that this song [although a move made to appeal to the women out there] did not cave in to commercial demands; not with those killer guitar solos.
And I was looking forward to the 'live' rendition of it, and when I saw it. The melodies were even more magical when you see the notes being brought to live out from a piece of wood and 6 strings.....
Two Hearts is the track that you want to check out first.
SUPERHEROES Okay, I have to admit. I didn't know who the guest guitarist was. I thought he was some old school rocker. Until my girlfriend told me the guest guitarist was someone who took part in Superband II.
When I saw the title first, I thought it was going to be some Superman-themed song. But, it's a rather technical fast song. Hearing it on the CD, you can hear the harmonizing by both guitarists; then you realise why it's called Superheroes. You can't go wrong with a Superband and Superband II combination on an original guitar twin-attack combo hit. The 'live' rendition of it was fantastic. You know that the studio is fantastic and you can just about make adjustments. But, the live show really broadcasted the technicalities of the 2 guitarists.
Superheroes is that fast heavy number you want to headbang to and it's addictive.
overall I dont know the rest of the musicians because I keep within my own world of music. But I do know the drummer Alfe; one of the best drummers I ever played with before.
$10/- for a copy of this EP is value for money. You get to hear the end results of a bunch of local homegrown solid musicians. This is what you call a true Super Band.
The BLOOM EP stands true to its title. You hear the music and guitars, you hope that this bloom will continue to flourish and bring hope to the rest of the local rock music scene.
Friends and all interested to get this EP, can get it through me if you are afraid to approach the man himself.

marcus is a drummer in his own band. I am a vocalist working on my own project band. There is a live house pub - Roomful of Blues where a guy performs alone and sings evergreen classics. Cool place to chill out. I recommend that place. The other one is at Wisma Atria outside - at Indochine where Cats in the Cradle perform. Another solid acoustic band.
I can bring the CD along this Sunday, but I will not be allowing copying of it [apologies, coz shern is my ex-guitarist and I am helping to spread word of his new EP, so no piracy for his hard-earned music]
Btw, mark, you also into the whole music thingy?

sort of la... actually it's mostly my brother, luke, who's always looking for pple to jam with during his hols.
myself, i just like chilling to music and exploring new sounds and genres of music etc. there was a period when i tried to get really good with guitar piano etc. but sort of gave up to spend more time on my other hobby--comic drawing. cos these kind of things, to be really good, u need loads of practice and loads of time. which i never seem to have, since i have too many interests already. too many to upkeep. plus my singing sucks, even tho i'm in my church choir... haha
any of u decent with guitar or bass?

I never go to local music gigs unless a friend is performing. I only go to Roomful of Blues, Indochine or the Boiler Room at St. James for live band purposes.
