Session #1 - 24072011 - And so it begins
Attendees:
Elfman (name subject to change) - The Sneaky Elf
Korron Fel - The Dragonborn Berserker
Bobay Zhao - The Charismatic Bald Minotaur
Keira - The Human Rogue
Evelynn aka (Klic) - The Brutal Gouger
Progress:
Our Heroes find themselves relaxing at the Golden Inix after a mission and made merry over lunch. Bob the Mul, slave of the Notekeeper of House Atreides came by and dropped them their next mission.
Upon receiving their mission, they acted as what professional mercenaries would do. Drop everything casual and went straight to prepare for their mission.
They purchased enough sun balms for their trip and headed to the Merchant District where House Vordon is, to begin their mission of assisting in the transportation of goods from House Vordon to the city of Balic.
Jossi the Juggler was watching them as they headed to the Merchant district and Keira approached her enquiring about the attention. In the short conversation Jossi learnt from Keira of the coming caravan trip House Vordon has commissioned House Atreides to.
Upon arrival, House Vordon's Quartermaster mentions that they are still preparing for the trip and the trip begins the next day.
They also noted that the trip would take ten days and thus went to prepare ten days worth of survival days.
After which a good rest was determined by the Scoia'tael, they bunked over at the Golden Inix in the Caravan District.
Deep in the night, a fire broke out over at the Caravan District which Evelynn the Thri Kreen identified to be the area of House Vordon. Quickly she helped to wake the rest of the party.
Fires breaking out at night are not uncommon sights especially since King Kalak's passing. Every few nights, some careless folk would accidentally tip the candles and start to burn their house down. Thus the tenants at the Golden Inix complaint about the ruckus the Scoia'tael folks were creating and hushed them asking them to bed. Ignoring this, they decided to investigate.
Upon reaching the gates of the Merchant Gate, they were stopped by the Gate Templars. Demanding their reason for being out at night during the Martial Hours (sleeping time), the Scoia'tael could not make any good answer and decided to bribe their way. However the pittance of 5 gold pieces could get them nowhere and Elfman decided to search the walls for another way.
Around the corner of the wall he overheard the Templars softly discussing about the frequent outbreaks of arson cases and attributed House Vordon to be wasting resources by causing too much accidental fiery discharges.
Hearing that this is case is probably one of House Vordon's own fault again, Elfman decided that they should ignore the fire and resign House Vordon to their own devices.
The Scoia'tael unit thus left and headed for the Golden Inix to rest for the rest of the night. However the rest of the night did not last long for it was about another hour to daybreak. They hurriedly took breakfast, pissing the innkeeper off by playing with his new recipe of "cookies". Thus they departed for House Vordon.
During the night, it would seem that they were actually under the attack and overhearing the guards, they could tell it was the Toothcutter's doing.
The black diamond banner that symbolised House Vordon was burnt down as well. This would surely piss House Vordon off.
Ignoring the situation at House Vordon, the heroes of the Scoia'tael unit decided to just get on with the mission and enquired about the state. They noticed ancient relics of Iron Blades, 20 uniquely shaped weapons all over the floor around the wrecked caravan. The servants of House Vordon was busy tending to the wreckage and spillage of the items and kept them soon after.
The Mekillots and their handlers soon came but refused to go near the caravan wagons. Elfman surmised this to likely be due to the relics. He attempted with misfortune to calm the Alpha Mekillot down only to have his arm fed to it. Quickly he maneuvered his hand out of the beast's jaws and continued to calm the beast. Having taken the blood of the Elf, The Alpha Mekillot started to have a liking for his blood and became friendlier towards Elfman. It actually allowed a non-handler to stand on it as well. A rare sight.
The Convoy soon made their journey out of town led by the Chief Navigator. In the entourage there are 3 handlers and the Speedy Dwarf followed by the bodyguards from House Atreides, the Scoia'tael unit.
Along the way, they braved a sandstorm and observed sandworm sightings and took a rest at a forkroads inn. A landmark for the way to Balic.
The elven chief navigator having drunk 2 mugs of Kank Nectar swiftly became drunk, an unusual sight.
With Elfman's help, the unit quickly found their way to the right path and headed for the Altaruk valley.
This valley is well known for the elven merchants that set up a bazaar there often. Our heroes, with the Chief Navigator's urging to rest decided to break camp for the night there as it was getting late. Partly also because he couldn't take his hungover state anymore. A Halfling encampment could be seen nearby.
Watching the speedy dwarf build anything is entertainment in its own right. With no word of complaint or muttering of tiredness, he swiftly built the tentate for the convoy to rest and even added a secure perimeters to the place. Such psionic display of speed is amazing. Probably such exertion tires him out easily and explains his nonchalent attitude to everything else and why he's always sleeping in the last caravan.
Our heroes of the Scoia'tael unit took up sentry and was engaged in combat in an entirely obvious ambush location. Never trust a drunk or hungover navigator.
Elven Dune Raiders visited upon the party at nightfall but was quickly dispatched by the Brutal Gouger, Evelynn. (never mess with a woman-it-thing holding a Gouge)
The Raider's Leader was sliced into many pieces by the Bloodthirsty Thri Kreen.
Sadly, it would now not be known if the Elven traders are in cohoots with the Dune raiders of Altaruk.
The next day, the party had a simple meal and headed off for Balic. The halfling encampment was no longer there by the time the heroes awoke.
