Izz Kah'tyrr aka Kai
Drow Rogue(Artful Dodger)
From the beginning he has no name. He doesn't remember the name his parents gave him. If he even had parents. As far as he can remember, the memories vague, he remembered a blue flash of light, and the next thing is him living off the streets of Menzodrylryn, together with other runts; orphans, runaways... This was his family. A community was formed among this group of vagabonds and runts. Years later, he and some of his friends on the streets was approached by a single cloaked stranger, who promises them the hopes of a better life and great fortune. His initiation was paved in blood. These very friends he forage for scraps with were his opponents in a fight to the death. Killed at his own hands for his survival, was his family.
As he slash and hacked, the blood splattering all over him, the cloaked stranger, whom later would be his mentor and subsequently his "handler", whom he knows as Teb'vrae, smiled beneath his hood. Teb'vrae has trained many before and this would be Teb'vrae's finest student.
From the bloody arena he held on to his dagger, plunged into his drow friend who lay motionless at his hand. Teb'vrae asks him if he has a name. He replies no. Teb'vrae tells him, that his name will emerged soon. Training begins, cold and harsh, everyday to the brink of death. His mentor has no patience, only zealous cruelty. Yet he pushes on, he survives each and every encounter, and never asks questions. After 4 decades in training, after proving his loyalty over and over, he is informed of his association, and given a name, Izz.
Circle of Zau'ndar is a secret group of assassins within the famed academy Tier Brieche trained for the bidding of the Matron of Menzoberranzan, whoever and whichever house it may be, and for the glory of Lolth. Each assassin, also known as a Kah'tyrr, reports straight to Teb'vrae, the master of the Circle, who reports straight to the Matron, currently Matron Mother Quenthel Baenre. The Circle of Zau'ndar is at the command of the Matron Mother, whoever she wants killed and murdered, or whichever organization she want's infiltrated is done with no questions are asked.
Thus began the start of great fortune down a dark path. Izz Kah'tyrr went on missions after missions for the next few decades. He would spend years to infiltrate organizations like the Purple Dragons, the Harpers, even the Coronal Guards in Myth Drannor. Palaces to murder the daughters and sons of Kings and Queens if they do not lean to the Matron Mothers demands. Even churches who opposes Lolth.
His last mission, which was the pivotal point of his life, was to standby to assassinate the head of an Eladrin House Soveliss in Evereska, if not following the demands of the Matron Mother. He spend some years infiltrating the house until the order was given.
During the time Izz Kah'tyrr was posing as the lover of the daughter of the House, Caelynna. Caelynna was the priestess of Corellon Larethian, to which he had access to learn some of Corellon's beliefs. Caelynna was also studying on Eilistraee, the deceased good Goddess of the Drow. Caelynna had a soft spot for the drow race, believing that unity of elves is what is needed in this age of turmoil. Caelynna even gave Izz Kah'tyrr a nickname, Kai.
Spending time with people, gaining trust and using that emotion to manipulate against them is what Izz Kah'tyrr was used to. Yet with the amount of time spend waiting for the execution order, and Caelynna's influence over him as he waits over the years started as a seed within him. Little by little Caelynna's kindness and philosophical influence chips away Izz Kah'tyrr's beliefs in Zau'ndar and Lolth herself. Even as he tells himself that its a test from Lolth, he cannot but admit that it has shaken his faith. He falls in love with her, a normally unknown emotion to a drow.
As the fates would have it, the order for the execution comes in. As he slayed and murdered the entire family of House Soveliss, a scene which brings him back to his initiation, Izz Kah'tyrr eyes were filled with tears, his heart full of sadness as he plunged the dagger into Caelynna. She dies in his arms, a smile on her face yet her eyes scream of betrayal and sadness.
Izz Kah'tyrr, now calling himself Kai, deserts the Circle of Zau'ndar after this event, a crime punishable by an extreme torturous death. Yet Kai already suffers torments even worse than death. Night after night as he enters his trance state, the image of the horrific murder replays in his mind, like a never ending nightmare. He makes his way to Baldur's Gate, hoping the hustle and bustle of the city life can drown out his sorrow.
All this time, throngs of drow killers were sent to execute him, one group after another. In just outside Baldur's Gate, he was ambushed and was heavily wounded. He fell unconscious just outside the gates of Candlekeep, and was brought in by the First Reader, Imoen. Kai recuperated from his injuries, and made a deal with The Keeper of the Tomes, Gorion that in exchange for protection and anonymity he will oversee their defenses in Candlekeep. During the years he spent there, he gain much knowledge in the many tomes of the great halls of Candlekeep. Through his sorrow, he gain inspiration from Caelynn to understand more of Eilistraee and Corellon. The more he reads and study, he feels great remorse, and the stronger his calling to repent.
He is determined to Light to Menzoberranzan and bring Lolth down.
As if through divine intervention, he finds an ancient scroll telling of great powerful magic before the spellplague, back when Mystra was still alive. This magic scroll, consisting of 3 parts, when activated will move the teutonic plates of the earth and fault lines will crack the earth in a major quake within the 3 points.
A most recent book brought in to Candlekeep after the Spellplague, a diary of a travelling bard, speaks of gnomish inventors originally from the island of Lantan who have settled in the earthmotes of Vihon Wilds. These surviving gnomes work with the Order of the Blue Fire and its journal entires tells of great inventions harnessed with the magic of the Spellplague. Of which one catches Kai's eye, a earthmote size machine resembling a big screw.
After years in Candlekeep, he leaves the place. The Keeper of the Tomes and the First Reader, now close friends, Kai's first genuine friends, bids him farewell and godspeed as he leaves the gate.
Kai makes his way towards the Dragon Coast to the place known as Ilipur to obtain a skyship to embark on his quest. Not surprisingly, along the way he gets ambushed by agents of his old alma mater, the Circle of Zau'ndar. Alone on his own, his enemies knowing his every move, Kai was captured. But in the dark of the night, Kai makes his escape from his pursuers, and makes his way to a nearby town called Westgate, and seeks out an old friend, Goku, whom he worked with to finish a rival clan. He is now recuperating in the Peony Pavilion.
