The Story so Far…
A band of 5 adventurers found themselves in Sharn one day before the official Day of Mourning remembrance ceremony. They ended up in the Prancing Pony inn and spent their first night indulging in fine music making and general debauchery. The adventurers woke up the next day and decided to look for ad-hoc employment; and where better than the local newspaper, which they bought for the entire street with 1gp.
They scanned the newspaper, debated a bit and went for a simple rat killing quest that led them to a restaurant in the Cogs, called the Roaring Fire. The owner Jacob assigned them the duty of cleansing his cellars of rats, which they did, in a sense. After getting chewed on by a couple of warforging-looking fire-breathing rats, they resolved the problem by sending Gungrave in as a representative of House Cannith and conning the rats of the treasure they were guarding. Their haul: 5 potato sacks of Khyber dragonshards, clearly belonging to House Cannith.

Sweating abit, the party decided to send forth their illustrious diplomat Zenith the bard to try and return the property to House Cannith. Outside their main Sharn headquarters, he met a Lord General Wilhem ‘ir Wayn, a noble member of House Cannith and quite a high position in the Brelish army. He amused Zenith for awhile before sending him away with his namecard, not quite believing Zenith’s tale.
Not wanting to leave their treasure unguarded, the heroes took a cab to a House “Gold-dwarf” Kundrak bank, where Grimly encountered a maiden from the previous night’s adventure and bought a peace of mind by opening an account and depositing their loot.
Having some time to kill, the characters decided to take on another quest, this time for a simple delivery. Sam Severins of House Sivis legally bound them to take on the important mission of delivering a heavy crate of House Cannith property. However at the precise timing of the pick-up, undead soldiers of “Karrnath” attacked the gathered public mourners, cutting them down by the dozens before our intrepid heroes saved the day by dispatching the zombies, largely from the safety of above...

After successfully fending off the undead “Karrnathi”, the surviving members of the public offer the heroes nearly 200g for saving them, but in a magnanimous gesture Zenith rejects the offer.
While searching the undead, mysterious magic jumps from the “Karrnathi” squad leader’s hammer into Grimli’s craghammer, making it an innocent-looking +2 weapon. The eagle-eyed heroes also notice that the zombies seem to have some metal and wood propping them up, and those with their skulls split open seem to be leaking a greenish-blue fluid. Gungrave carefully extracts some odd-looking mechanism from the zombie head, which he identified as something possibly Cannith-made…
After resting a short while and cruising in their skycab, they were stopped mid-air by a 30+ human woman who identified herself as Lady Jorlanna d’Cannith. Her men surrounded the skycab as she talked terms with our unwitting heroes who seem to have been caught in the crossfire of internal House Cannith politics. She implores the heroes to break their contract and deliver the crate to her labs at the Alchemical Processing & Research Centre, claiming that her contacts with House Sivis would allow her to write off their existing legal contract, but not the magical tracking. For unknown reasons the party finds themselves sympathetic to her cause and decide to ally themselves with her, despite warnings from Sam the Sivis gnome that they will break the contract.
Jorlanna instructs them to deliver the goods to her base while she attends to other matters. Inevitably the party is tracked down and assaulted by warforged and needle-like stingers, resulting in the death of the poor skycab pilot. Thankfully Zenith was skillful enough to keep it stabilized and brought them to the base safely. Having delivered the goods, Jorlanna thanks them and tells them that she has settled matters with House Sivis. The party negotiates for future patronage and rewards from her, although she herself is suspicious of the initial altruism from the party. The heroes inform her that they have previously come across a cache of Khyber dragonshards now sitting in the bank, and that they were willing to pass them to her in the next morning. She is grateful for their offer, and will meet them at the House Kundrak bank at 9 the next morning.
Seeing that is still time to get to the Day of Mourning activities, they hurry down to Morgrave University to join in the activity. Zenith recognizes some members of the royal family sitting with the Daughters of Sora Kell, as well as Lord Wilhem sitting amongst them. At 8pm sharp, King Boranel approaches the podium and announces “The time to remember the countless victims of the Mourning has come! In remembrance of the loss of Cyre, I call upon this city to observe a minute of silence!”
He raises his hands and the entire city falls into complete magical silence for a minute. Within this minute, you can see members of the crowd bowing their heads down, while more opportunistic ones start pick-pocketing under the cover of silence. Grimli unfortunately loses 50g, Lvino got bumped but didn’t lose anything, while Zenith is threatened with a psychic message at dagger point.
It turns out that this was Merrix d’Cannith, who has appeared in person to ask for a meeting at the Laughing Crow. The party obliges, to find a 40+ human man surrounded by a dozen warforged guards, drinking his way under the table. He rages at the party in a drunken stupor, demanding that they return his goods to him before he calls upon the wrath of House Cannith upon their heads. It is evident that the party does not like him very much, and they are likely to go along with the original plan of giving the shards to Lady Jorlanna…
Just while the thought the whole day is finally over, they return to the Prancing Pony to find Grimli’s dwarven quartet sitting there looking glum. Suddenly Miranda (the dwarven maiden at House Kundark) turns around and tears out the throat of her friend with her teeth. The Prancing Pony breaks out into chaos at this sudden development, while Grimli restrains Miranda. A while later the physician arrives to pronounce the woman dead, and describes what he sees as a possible result of withdrawal symptoms of Dust, a very powerful hallucinogenic drug, which is possibly what Grimli had offered them the night before. Lvino looks for traces of Quik the hooded Halfling, but other than a drink left on the table and an open window, there are no other signs that he was in the inn at that point of time. Tony promises to get in contact with his “friends” and provide some sort of clues for the party to find Quik should they decide to do so..
