Garl's mother was a human priestess of Tempus. She was sent to the far reaches of the North to the borders of the Kingdom of Obould as a missionary for the Lord of Battle, in the hopes that Tempus being the sort of god the barbaric Orcs would most want to follow. In time she grew to convert many Orcs into the legion of Tempus, beliving that the monstrous fury hidden within the Orcs could be better tapped and used to serve Tempus. So strong was such belief that it must have been fate that brought his mother and father, an orc, together, to produce him, Garl Gromthol, half-orc. Garl looks more human than orc, but is very well built, strong, dexterous and cunning, combining the best of human and orc. His parent liaison however was frowned upon by both Human and Orc community, believing it to be blashempy. As a young child Garl was mistreated by those who knew his background and shunned by other children. His parents, wanting to best childhood for him, decided to send him forward to Suzail, capital of Cormyr in the hopes that he would blend in with the more human-centric society and train further at the Temple of Tempus. It was there that he flourished and showcased his strength, following the tutors of Tempus to become an apprentice Runereaver, an artisan of the battlefield that carves the sigils and runes of Tempus on His enemies.
He seeks to make his parents feel proud, and uphold the tenets of Tempus, which are to be fearless and never turn away from a fight. His anger sometimes gets the better of him, but reading the works of Sun Tzu, first disciple of Tempus, he is growing to achieve self-discipline.
He is fond of his parents and periodically writes letters and sends momentoes to his family in the North. He however keeps his orcish heritage a secret.
He is 18 years old and has just completed his Runereaver apprenticeship, but not yet fully a trained Master.
His mentor, a great descendant of Sun Tzu, has given him a week off training to experience the world, and what better place for an apprentice to celebrate his graduation at the local pub..
