Apparently we have been playing this wrong since the beginning of time.
Area Burst 1 is not 4 squares, but 9 squares.
As stated in PHB Pg 272:

I have never took Area Burst 1 to be 4 squares. My Scorching Burst covers 9 squares as said. Thought I demonstrated it often enough...?

Oh. ok. I always thought we played it as 4 squares. Ok if you have been doing it the right way than thats fine.

We have never played a burst 1 with 4 squares. It's always been 9 squares. Did you mistake DMC for some other blur gaming group you play with? WAHAHAHAHAHA~!!!!
