This following excerpt is based on a D&D session that took place on 12th of December 2009 in the afternoon.
The party of 4 comprises of Tas'sadar - Genasi Warlord (played by Marcus); Mobius – Human Wizard (played by Edmund); Gond Oremighty - Goliath Fighter (played by Eugene); and Lucien - Human Ranger (played by Dominic).
The session continues from where the party had last driven away the monsters at Arabel.
Truth of the Matter
The PCs meet up with the village head – Inoran, who offers them a thousand gold pieces if they can unravel the mystery behind the kidnappings and nightmare in time for the carnival.
Encounter 1 – Dancing Lights
The sun is setting as you find your way along the light forest. Eventually, you see a cavern entrance ahead of you. However, you see small dancing lights about the trees; and a voice seems to speak in your mind, “Welcome… might heroes. Do not fear, you are in safe hands…” Just then, the dancing lights flare and continue to dance about.
The party decide to check further and get into an unnecessary battle with Will O’ Wisps and an irritating genasi who keeps asking the PCs to stop fighting. But, eventually the battle comes to an end soon enough.
Encounter 2 – The Darkwitch of Arabel
This encounter came into play before the previous one ended when Tas’sadar went into the caverns alone, and decided to retreat. The armour of Arnd knows it… but game techniques prevented it from getting upset.
Anyway, the party is stopped by a bog hag who demands 500gp in order to let them pass. Naturally, a battle ensues and a huge feymire crocodile emerges and manages to swallow Gond up. A Venom-Eye Basilisk was also in the fray. But, the PCs manage to defeat the crocodile eventually. The party having had enough of disguised enemies; never fell for the bog hag’s polymorphing tricks…
Encounter 3 – The Berbabang
You enter a huge cavernous room. Dead bodies are flung about the room in disarray, and some are gnawed almost to nothing. The bodies are of humans… some of them elves and dwarves. But they all have one thing in common other than being just gnawed to the bones… they seem to be the young of the races. Just then, a flying blue humanoid with bad-like wings swoops down from the sky. It snarls at you in a foreign language.
The party eventually discovered the monstrosity behind the nightmares of Arabel. The Berbalang!!! And… Gond and company wonders why the village could not fight off something as retarded as the Berbalang…
Rescuing Alfonso and Erina
The rest of the days should pass uneventfully, however on the morning of the day when the carnival is to start, Alfonso and Erina have disappeared. The father is distraught and goes out in the streets to look for his children. The PCs help to hunt around.
As you walk in the streets looking for Erina and Alfonso, the rest of the village seem to be gathered at some central area in the village. They seem to be gathering around a young beautiful woman of almost fey beauty, and she is singing by the village central well. Even as you look on, you cannot help but marvel at the charm of the singer. She notices you as she sings and smiles sweetly. As she stops singing eventually, she curtsies to the crowd and reminds them to head to the fields beside Arabel where the carnival will be held. She promises that it will be fun.
Encounter 1 – Carnival Madness
As you approach the main stage, you see the same beautiful woman in a blue flowing dress with laurels on her head. She is singing charmingly and two children stand by her side each – Alfonso and Erina!! But you notice that they seem to be dazed and they are also singing… Just then, fireworks explode in the skies as the crowd cheers But, something goes wrong as you notice some dark figures emerging from nowhere and appearing beside the villagers… They seem to be attacking the villagers! And Alfonso and Erina scream as you see the woman retreating from the stage, dragging both the children with her.
The party realises that the carnival is under siege; and a battle breaks out between the heroes and a horde of undeads. Paralyths fly in the air and dominate the PCs, as vampires attack them. Gond is dominated and forced to walk towards the stage where he got electrified. Just when despair seems to wear the party down, Lucien’s arrows keep the enemies at bay and eventually, the undead horde is defeated…
