The session continues from where the party had last encountered with the Succubus.
Elfmound
Encounter 3 – The Medusa
As you wind your way further down into the lower depths, you enter a chamber that would have been glorious in its days.
Everything is in disarray now as cobwebs hang from the ceilings. You also notice quite a few statues scattered about in the room… and you realize that they all seem to have a similar look carved on their faces – that of shock. You hear the clatter of bones from the other end of the room as you notice some skeletons shambling towards you. You realize that this was part of a grand hall dedicated to ancient dead. And just as you prepare to face the undead, you hear something slithering… You look at the other end of the room and see a figure in a hood approaching you, and she seems to be sobbing, but there is something amiss as she is also chuckling amidst her sobbing…
The party had to overcome Tomb Guardians and a Medusa who managed to petrify both Gond and Mobius. However, with the party’s quick thinking and resourcefulness, they manage to overcome the ordeal. But, the threat comes from the swashing skeletons who deal almost as good as 4 [W] dmg each time they attack, or the Medusa who is able to petrify as long as you fail your saving throws in two consecutive rounds?
Encounter 4 – The Deathpriest of Orcus
You enter another chamber. This time, bright lights fill the room as a man in robes looks at you from a throne. He rises in full glamour and smiles as he wipes his sleeves, “I would like to thank you for coming this far, this would only help to accelerate our plans to deliver our Lord back into this world.”
The man is not alone… surrounding him you notice two other humanoids standing nearby. One of them is in full plate armour, and wields a longsword and heavy shield. He has white wispy hair flowing out and you notice that the face is not of a human, but there of a zombie… yet you know, this isn’t a zombie…
The other figure is a man in leather armour., and you notice he wears a ring. He seems to be regal in his attire as he comes forward.
The first man in robes speaks, “Well… as you can see, Sturm and Eddie will gladly trade blows with you…” And just then, you hear the growl of some creature from the corner of the room… you see a panther prowling towards you, but you know it is not of this plane.
In this encounter, the party overcomes the enemies easily because of the fire wall cast by Mobius, who manages to trap the opponents on the other end of the room. Even the battle wight that manages to zap a healing surge each time it hits you, doesn’t seem to be much of a concern…
Eventually, the PCs manage to uncover that the issue of the missing newborn babies have nothing much to do with the monstrosities at the Elfmound. But having uncovered much of the mystery beneath Elfmound, the party is rewarded another 5000gp. As such, after hearing some information from Sir Lancaster, the party decide to trail after the couple who were believed to have been seen walking along the road near the King’s Forest.
And onwards they pursue the villainous couple…
Finding the couple
Encounter 1 – The Vampires
As you trudge on along the dusty road, the sun is setting and you hear the sounds of the birds coming to a standstill. Ahead, you see a group of people walking onwards. You never noticed them before. One of them is extremely huge and seems to be holding a bundle, and you hear muffled cries from it. Just them you see something swooping down from the skies, it looks like a big-flying reptile, and you see a mad-faced gnome screaming in glee as he reaches out for the bundle.
The party eventually face up with a group of bloodthirsty vampires, whom they managed to vanquish. In a flash of heroism, the party manage to put down the Oni Mage, Wyvern and Gnome Wolverine. Feeling cocky and arrogant, the party believe they can take on anything and everything… [The DM smirks behind the DM screen]
Encounter 2 -
As you trudge on ahead, you see two figures standing side by side as a man puts his arms round a woman. Heavy fog starts to swirl around and loom towards you. Very soon, the fog engulfs you and you can’t see clearly. The next thing you know the couple is standing in front of you. They both look very beautiful and the man speaks softly, “Riyana, my love… let me deal with them whilst you wait.”
The party have found the couple… a pair of vampires. These vampires are no ordinary minion vampires… They move fast and remain almost unscathed during the encounter. The party have tried dealing massive damage… but it is of no use as the vampires are able to regenerate and suck the life-force out of the party… Dominated and feeling helpless… the party is torn apart when the vampires kill Mobius… and subsequently kill Gond [see how useless the two are… first they are petrified… then they are killed]. And the party starts to FLEE… yes, the DMC runs away from a battle!!! But of course, they still come back to try and save Gond who is constantly being dominated… But… it is no use. And just when all seems lost, the vampires start laughing and disappear in the mists…
The next moment, the party find themselves in a lush green field…
Arabel
As the fog clears, you stand in the lush green fields. The sky is blue and clear, and you see two small children looking at you with curiosity. They stand some distance away. However, upon seeing that you seem to of some distant part of Faerun, the two children start running towards you, holding hands and laughing cheerfully.
The children introduce themselves as Alfonso and Erina, they come from a nearby village [ and now you notice that in the near distance, you see smoke rising in the air from a small village settlement]. The children tell you that the smoke is from the preparation of food for a coming carnival. They beg you to follow them back to their village – Arabel, and can’t wait to show you off to the rest at home; for there have been no visitors for some time.
At that, you suddenly notice Erina’s face turn grim and she suddenly mutters, “Brother, they do come… at night”
Alfonso nudges his sister and grins cheerfully, “Come along~! Won’t you?”
The children run along the streets of Arabel, directing you to follow behind as the other villagers look at you. They don’t say a word. Eventually, the children stop outside a small courtyard of a house and shout out, “Father! We are home~” They skip energetically into the house… and shortly, a man in brown pants and white top, wearing a farmer’s hat appears at the doorway of the entrance. He has a smoking pipe in his mouth and he looks at you, “Forgive my children, they are a bit mischievous, for having taken up your time. I believe you are not from this part of town. Please, welcome to my humble house.”
As the party recover in time for sunset dinner, hearty conversations exchange; however, as the sun sets and night approaches, the man advises the party to stay indoors as the chilly winds can be quite cold. However, Erina starts to cry and sobs, “Please, onija… could you all please make them all go away?! They will come every night, the sounds of their howls put me at unease, and brother always says they will go away one day, but it has been for so long now. Mother was out in the fields when they came”.
The man shouts at Erina and you see a look of sadness on his face. He buries his head in his hands, and just then you hear the howls of unholiness fill the house…
The man lights up his pipe and smokes. He looks at you and says grimly, “Arabel, although a small locale quite near to Suzail, is fraught with a nightmarish ordeal everynight… These accursed creatures roam the streets of Arabel in search of young fresh blood… When they first came, they had attacked my wife when she was out in the courtyard hanging the laundry… Now, they come every night… they do not enter our own houses because it seems that they are told not to do so. But anyone wandering the streets alone after sunset is prone to being attacked…”
Encounter 1 – Attack on Arabel
The party decide to chase after the monstrous howling out in the streets
As you step out into the darkness of the night, you see some hunched humanoids walking along the streets, saliva drooling as they bare fangs. You also see a big-sized man walking behind the group, and he seems to be chanting something. And behind him in chains, being led by the big-sized man, is a two-headed giant! The monstrous giant seems to be waving its clubs around wildly, but does not seem to disobey the big-sized man leading it.
The party chase after the group… a bunch of pale-looking humanoids with fangs… and another Oni Mage with a two-headed giant! Mobius, in all his heroism, sets up the wall of fire again and manages to kill the vampires… and tells the party to wait for the monsters to come over…
But they never did….
However, the party are still regarded as heroes who managed to drive away the monsters and cheering and applauding from the locals fill the night sky… And somewhere in the distance, a couple chuckle at the party’s glorious moment.
