K guys, there are some limitations to enchanting items and transferring magic so here's a list of them.
Using the Enchant Magic Item ritual to upgrade existing magic items, the ritual can only upgrade up to 5 levels per use of the ritual. Since most magical armour, weapons and implements go up in 5 levels per plus, this isn't a problem. You just take the cost of the higher level minus the cost of the existing level and pay that amount for the ritual to work.
For other magic items that occupy the head or waist slots etc, the levels go up 10 levels per plus. This means that if you want a more powerful version of the item you have, you'll just have to create a brand new item and pay the full cost (and give me the older item free of charge ;D).
Said ritual can also be used to place a property in a magic item that has no property. The ritual cannot be used to convert one item property into another.
The Transfer Enchantment ritual transfers the magical qualities (properties, powers and enhancement bonus) of an item to another item. The receiving item must be the same type (wand, staff, weapon, etc.) and occupy the same magic item slot (head, waist, armour, etc.) as the original item. The enchantment must also be valid for the receiving item (cannot transfer ranged weapon properties to melee weapons or cloth only armour properties to chainmail).
Most importantly, you cannot transfer a lower level enchantment to another item that already has a higher level of enchantment. A higher level enchantment could be transferred to an item with a lower level of enchantment but the previous magic and properties are lost after the ritual.
Hope that's useful for you.
