twice per encounter is quite alot...since my fighter will need CA every chance she gets(all my utility's allow me to get CA too so if we spread it outs it'll be all gd). n bout the cube thing..yeah it'll work but its onli 10 feet not 15(still a 1d10 either way). didn't think bout it tat way.

Would like to point out that you can't ardent surge twice a round, you can only use it once a round..

Post by vigean on Jul 5, 2011 20:34:28 GMT 8
i dont know about the others, but i use " cute pdf writer" ( yes thats the actual name). instead of printing, it will generate a pdf file of the document.
u can just upload the dnd4e file, since all of us will be able to open it using the character builder anyway

The second wind power is not that effective as typically you don't want to use your standard for that. On a dwarf its a different case, but you're not..
Might not want a great spear as it consumes a feat.. Cos hiting from reach 1 is really not that big of a difference since you're still on the front line. Perhaps longspear will do? Not sure if ardent start with shield proficiency, but might just want to stick with sword and shield. Then can save on hafted defense..
You have to determine if you want to support while doing damage or just support, and build around that. Don't attempt to do both. Bloodclaw is a damage enhancement, if want to support more can consider things like healer's weapon, healer's brooch and other healy stuff. Every point counts, especially since I see the ardent doesn't get huge +++ to their heals.
Can't comment on power choices.

Every point counts, especially since I see the ardent doesn't get huge +++ to their heals. Can't comment on power choices. no shield proficiency. so i'm either forced to get hafted defense, or invest a feat into shield proficiency (which i'd have to swap my dex and str scores around.) picked up great spear for the +1 to hit since i figured i need to actually hit to grant the bonuses/ debuffs from my at will powers. if not no point end up like bernie's battle mind. great at will, never hits. D: which 2nd wind power are you referring to? inspiring fortitude? or wind of sympathy. wind of sympathy taken cos i felt like i would need to stay on my feet even after i've hit my bloodied mark ( which is where a good number of my powers kick in) any item/feat that you know of that can make the 2nd wind a minor? or is that strictly dwarf? was contemplating infectious wrath ( allies within 5 get +1 to atk for 1 round when i get bloodied) or outraged vengeance ( allies get +2 bonus to victims from my ardent outrage) isnt healing weapon a cleric thing? it says " healing word" specifically. any other feats or build to suggest? the approach i'm looking at is being able to bolster the party's attack capability ( which is what the euphoric ardent build leans towards). any other feats, items, or builds to suggest? **can anyone help me verify? i think my Char Builder is bugging out. i cant figure out why my ardent has 21 ac. 10 base + 3 level + 6 chainmail + 1 hafted defense should come up to only 20. and somehow when i increase/decrease my dex score, my AC changes. chainmail whould render my dex/int bonus nul for AC right?**

My suggestion is to not choose too many powers / effects that trigger on specific conditions eg. bloodied. This is because they are hard to track, and small bonuses like +1 to hit or +1 damage are negligible. If the effect is like +2 or more however, then it becomes a greater incentive for you and everyone else to track it.
The additional +1 AC comes from chainmail enchantment. The fiddling about of the DEX, does the hafted defense feat have a DEX requirement?

hmm ok thanks for the input!
that stat is calculated using mundane chainmail (just +6 AC bonus) no dex requirement on hafted defense. i tried to test the AC error further, it seems even a paladin wearing plate is getting a dex bonus to AC on my char builder. S:

my expereicne with playing an ardent is the verdict of "the powers suck and it's the weakest healer"
if u want a good healer, try a shaman...

No runepriest is, by like a million miles, the WORST healer.

+9 because you have chosen finemail armor. It's base armor is 7 instead of 6, so with +2 becomes +9.
Hmm did you turn on inherent bonuses or something?

hmmm. i dont recall choosing finemail. the item name still says chainmail but the item card reflects a+7 bonus. are we even allowed to take finemail? =D (alvin?)
no inherit bonus. its just my dex bonus that seems to be added despite using cumbersome armor

i allow finemail.
it's just a masterwork.
u're in a strong mercenary band, not a lock cock one.

but finemail is restricted to standard point buy creation right? since it comes under " magical" items. or are DSX characters allowed to use masterwork items, just without the magical enhancement bonus? ( which... kinda dsnt make sense lol)

Korron once belonged to a dragonborn clan, living amongst his kind. His elder brother Kerlan taught him the trade of the blade, and imbued in him a strong sense of loyalty to the clan since he was young. Korron often traveled with his brother's band and traveled across the Ivory Triangle on a regular basis to serve the clan's interests. Kowever, during his last trip with the band, a terrible sandstorm hounded the travelers. confident they could navigate their way in-spite of the storm, they pressed on. What they didn't know, was that they had mistakenly strayed off course, bringing them within dangerous distance of the ruins of Giustenal. As they unknowingly moved closer to the ruins, whispered words drifted through Korron's mind, but he quickly dismissed them as a trick of the wind, or weariness playing at his mind. That is, until he blacked out.
------------
By the time I awoke, night had fallen and the storm had passed. I don't recall falling sleep. and why would i be sleeping on the sand? As I stand up and brushed the sand from my armor and equipment, I see a scene of horror behind me. Around me lie the mangled bodies of my comrades. throats torn open, skulls pierced through the eye, gaping wounds all over their bodies. Who or what could have done this? raiders? no sign of anyone leaving the area, and the band's equipment was left untouched. A creature of the sand? No. these wounds look like they were made with both weapon and claw.
Even so, why am i still alive?
The taste of blood in my mouth. blood? I look down at my hands, they are caked with blood. There is a whisper on the wind as my eyes widen. Images flood into my mind. I attacked them. I KILLED them. Every one of them, even my brother. Dead by my own hands.
I fall to my knees, as my strength escapes me. I roar into the night sky, but there is no one around to hear it.
-------------
Korron never went back to his clan. After all, how could he face them? He had killed his own kinsmen. He knew that he could never go back. He had fed on the bodies of his fallen comrades. The 1st rule to staying alive in the desert: use any means necessary, even the unthinkable. He wandered for days alone in the desert as his mind began to fracture. He no longer kept to the practices of keeping the desert's dangers at bay. In a way, he wished for death, believing that it might absolve him for what he had done, believing that he deserved it.
It was then that he stumbled across a group of Hakonen travelers. without forethought or warning, he attacked them. unknowing to him as Atreides mercenaries watched on as he tore through the Hakonen ranks. they had intended to ambush the Hakonen band, until Korron had interfered.
at witnessing Korron's destructive rampage, the leader of the Atreides ambushers decided to try and recruit him. but Korron showed them the same cannibalistic hostility he had shown Hakonens. however, weary from the earlier battle, Korron was overwhelmed. deciding that Korron's abilities were too valuable to lose to a senseless kill, the ambushers captured him and took him back to the Atreides camp.
The Atreides healers spent much time trying to restore Korron's mind, realizing that he had been exposed to the voice of Giustenal's caller. As Korron slowly regained his sanity, he agreed to staying with the Atreides mercenaries. though he remained fearful of going berserk once again. - - that acceptable for a character background?

berserker background... nice.

but strangely i'm not a barbarian or anything resembling that. even weirder is how i'm going to be able to rationalize having the " noble adept" character theme. XD
i just threw in the berserker thing to add more flavor to it. rather than having the basic " they found me"
character Background choices: Darksun - Clanblade Darksun - Ivory Triangle - Hardened traveler Dragonborn - Dishonored
i'll see if i can RP the berserker thing if you put me anywhere near Giustenal again =D

Prologue:
Shrieks of pain and blood filled the air, as the raiders swooped down onto the small Thri-Kreen pack, their mounts trampling over nests, causing mayhem and destruction.
As soon as the last Thri-Kreen fell, they begun to claim their spoils of war. Food, water, weapons and armor from both the Thri-Kreen and their few fallen allies.
While all that was going on, 2 raiders were having a little discussion about something they found.
"It's one of em monster's egg. Let smash it!"
"No, no. We'll sell it instead. I bet any arena master would pay a hefty sum for one of these Thri-Kreen. As a gladiator or just as the monsters they are. And best of all, we can keep the money all to ourselves."
"Ahahaha. That's a swell idea. But....there's a crack on the egg."
"Just cover it up with a little mud. No one will ever notice."

A year ago:
"MERCY!! I yie...."
The crowd went silent as the Mul's head soared halfway across the arena, landing with a soft, sickening thud oh the sandy floor.
A high ranking templar, the Master of Games, stood up from his seat in the stand, and with a weary sigh, he inquired.
"Why did you dispatch a fighter who has already yielded to you?"
"The strong live, the weak die." i replied.
"This has happened not once, not twice, but three times! You were pardon before due to your immense popularity as a gladiator, but enough is enough. We came here to watch men pit there strength and wit against each other, not senseless murders done in cold blood. I hereby ban you from participating in any arena combat in Tyr. You have earned your name well, WidowMaker.
Out of the corner of my eye, almost hidden in the shadows, i saw the man who raised me, the arena master, shake his head in dismay.
With a nonchalant shrug, i head out of the arena towards the mess halls. As i entered, the other gladiators moved away. As i approach a table, it was quickly vacated. I looked around and saw some of my kind in their own small groups and i felt a tinge of jealousy. Unlike them i never had the compulsive urge to huddle in a group. But i had always wished to be accepted.
Right then, i was confronted by a copper-skinned man and a beefy looking Mul. Before i could react, he introduced himself as Griffith and his Mul companion as Guts.
"I have a preposition for you Thri-Kreen. We saw your wonderful fight and we believe that your talent are now to be wasted because of the ban that the Master of Games imposed onto you. How bout joining our mercenary group instead?"
I stared hard at him, and then at the Mul(who just gave me a shrug).
"Why not."
"Excellent. Now grab your things and lets be off."
I chuckled and rested my hand lightly on my gouge.
"I have everything i need."
